It is a mechanical peeling procedure aiming at minimizing the appearance of rough skin. It is often applied at reducing acne scars. A smoother, tighter and fresher skin comes up with the recovery of scar when the top layer of skin is peeled.

This procedure is performed under general or local anesthesia depending on the area size where dermabrasion is applied. The patient can go home the same day when it is done under local anesthesia. He/she can go home either the same or next day when it is performed under general anesthesia.

A pain in the form of mild burning sensation which does not create discomfort may occur after dermabrasion, however this can be brought under control easily with analgesics. It takes 5-10 days until the scars have healed and are closed. A healed scar becomes pinky when it is covered with a fresh skin layer. Over time, this pinky color becomes pale and gets its natural color within several weeks.
